John C. Bedini is an American inventor and the central figure of the source archive Bedini dossier. He describes himself in the collected 2004 forum posts as having worked on his electromagnetic motor-generator-charger devices for roughly 35 years, and as having begun his career as a semiconductor engineer. He collaborated with Peter Lindemann after reading Lindemann's The Free Energy Secrets of Cold Electricity.
In the dossier's forum posts he posts under the handle "John34." His most consequential statements there are disclaimers rather than claims:
- "the machine is not over unity in any way"
- "There is NO free electricity produced in these systems"
- "These systems do NOT capture 'back EMF'… My patents say that my motor captures Back EMF because THAT is the only claim the Patent Office would accept."
He characterizes the effect his devices produce as "high voltage spikes that have no current associated with them," and says "voltage without current is the nature of Radiant Energy." This is the basis of the Radiant Reactive Power framing used in the dossier.
He cites Gabriel Kron's work on "lamellar currents" and open-path/closed-path network theory as a theoretical basis, though the dossier provides no derivation or measurement connecting Kron's work to the device.
His stated charge-measurement instrument is the BK Precision Battery Capacity Analyzer, Model 600, which reads battery capacity in amp-hours.
Patents
Bedini is named on the three US patents abstracted in the dossier — US6392370 — Device and Method of a Back EMF Permanent Electromagnetic Motor Generator, US6545444 — Device and Method for Utilizing a Monopole Motor to Create Back-EMF to Charge Batteries and US6677730 — Device and method for Pulse Charging a Battery — and on the PCT application WO 01/52390 A1 — Bedini PCT Application discussed by William Alek. The patents use "back EMF" language that Bedini later says was adopted only to satisfy the Patent Office.
