"Regauging" is the term used in US6392370 — Device and Method of a Back EMF Permanent Electromagnetic Motor Generator — the first of the three Bedini patents abstracted in the source archive Bedini dossier — for the process by which the device is said to capture energy. The same wording appears in the dossier's discussion of US6545444 — Device and Method for Utilizing a Monopole Motor to Create Back-EMF to Charge Batteries.
The patent's own description
The patent text, as reproduced in the dossier, states:
"The invention works through a process of regauging, that is, the flux fields created by the coils is collapsed because of a reversal of the magnetic field in the magnetized pole pieces thus allowing the capture of available back EMP energy."
In the patent's account, the stator's magnetized pole pieces are driven to reverse polarity at the right moment, collapsing the coil field and routing the resulting energy into a recovery rectifier or diode. The passage continues: "Additional available energy may be captured and used to re-energize the battery, and/or sent in another direction to be used as work. As an alternative, the available back EMF energy may be dissipated into the system."
The "back EMP" artifact
The quoted passage writes "back EMP" where "back EMF" is plainly meant, while the sentence immediately following writes "back EMF" correctly. This is a recurring artifact of the source text, not a transcription error introduced by the wiki. It is preserved here as a quoted artifact.
The inventor's disclaimer
The term sits in direct tension with John C. Bedini's own later statement, reproduced in the same dossier:
"These systems do NOT capture 'back EMF'. Back EMF is not capturable. My patents say that my motor captures Back EMF because THAT is the only claim the Patent Office would accept."
Bedini goes on to define back EMF in conventional terms — "the effect that reduces the current draw in a traction motor as the motor speeds up and generates a counter voltage that opposes the applied current" — and states that his systems do not use that process. He instead describes the output as high-voltage spikes with no associated current, which he calls "reactive power" or Radiant Energy, and which he says "DOES NOT meter as REAL POWER."
The contradiction between the patent's "regauging" language and the inventor's disclaimer is left visible here rather than resolved. See Back-EMF Motor-Generator Claim and Radiant Reactive Power.
Evidence status
The dossier provides no derivation, measurement or independent analysis of the regauging process. It appears only as the patent's stated mechanism. Under the evidentiary frame of Patent as Evidence, a patent's description of how an invention is said to work is not proof that it works as described.
