The "back-EMF motor-generator" is the framing used in the three US patents abstracted in the source archive Bedini dossier — US6392370 — Device and Method of a Back EMF Permanent Electromagnetic Motor Generator, US6545444 — Device and Method for Utilizing a Monopole Motor to Create Back-EMF to Charge Batteries and US6677730 — Device and method for Pulse Charging a Battery — and in the PCT application WO 01/52390 A1 — Bedini PCT Application. In this framing, the inductive kick produced when a motor coil's field collapses (conventionally called back EMF) is not dissipated but is captured, rectified and routed into a recovery battery, so that the machine both drives a rotor and charges a second battery.
What the patents describe
- A rotor with magnets all of the same polarity (Monopole Motor Configuration).
- A stator whose pole pieces are magnetized to present the same polarity to the rotor magnets.
- Coil windings split into power, trigger and recovery functions.
- A rectifier or high-voltage bridge feeding a capacitor and then a recovery battery.
- A process the patents call Regauging: collapsing the coil flux fields by reversing the magnetic field in the pole pieces.
The inventor's own qualification
In the dossier's 2004 forum posts, John C. Bedini disavows "back EMF" as the real mechanism:
"These systems do NOT capture 'back EMF'… My patents say that my motor captures Back EMF because THAT is the only claim the Patent Office would accept."
He describes the actual effect as Radiant Reactive Power — high-voltage spikes with no associated current. The dossier presents both descriptions without reconciling them, so the patent claim and the inventor's later account of the same hardware are in tension.
Evidence status
A patent is a legal claim, not a demonstration of performance. The dossier contains no independent instrumented energy-balance measurement of any device built to these patents.
