What this source is

The filenames tabl9.jpg and tabl1317.jpg correspond to numbered tables in the source: Table IX is captioned "Bureau of Mines Crude Shale Oil Analysis of Oil Produced by NTU Retort at Rifle CO" and Table XIII covers "Effect of Boiling Range on Hydrocarbon Group Distribution of Distillates from NTU Shale Oil." Table III is an atmospheric distillation operation on NTU shale oil. These are Bureau of Mines analyses of NTU shale oil, not Karrick coal-LTC yields, and the source does not reproduce their numeric contents in text.
Evidence status and limitations
- Provenance is partly identified. The dossier's tables are captioned as Bureau of Mines analyses of NTU shale oil from the Rifle, CO demonstration plant, and the retort photographs are credited to Industrial and Engineering Chemistry (January 1951). The promotional framing ("Surprise! We Can Make Oil From Coal Cheaper Than The Oil Wells Can Pump It Out") comes from Newsreal #2, June 1977, by Harlan Trott.
- No independent verification. Nothing in this capture constitutes a replication, an energy balance, or a third-party audit of the claimed yields.
- Third-capture duplication. The substantive overlap with the two prior Karrick source pages is high. Readers seeking the full narrative should start with the earlier captures.
