The "monopole" configuration is the rotor-stator arrangement described in US6545444 — Device and Method for Utilizing a Monopole Motor to Create Back-EMF to Charge Batteries and US6392370 — Device and Method of a Back EMF Permanent Electromagnetic Motor Generator, the two motor patents in the source archive Bedini dossier.
In this arrangement, all rotor magnets have the same polarity, and the stator pole piece they face is magnetized to the same polarity. The patent describes the rotor magnets as being "in a monopole condition when in momentary apposition with a magnetized pole piece of a stator having the same polarity." Because like poles face each other, the rotor is driven by magnetic repulsion rather than attraction, and the coil field is fired and collapsed at the moment of apposition.
The stator coil in US6545444 — Device and Method for Utilizing a Monopole Motor to Create Back-EMF to Charge Batteries has three windings — power, trigger and recovery — and the recovery winding feeds a high-voltage bridge, a high-voltage capacitor and a recovery battery. In US6392370 — Device and Method of a Back EMF Permanent Electromagnetic Motor Generator the stator is two bars joined by a permanent magnet with magnetized pole pieces at one end of each bar, with input and output coils wound on each bar.
The dossier does not provide an independent analysis of the monopole arrangement's efficiency or of how it differs in practice from a conventional motor.
