A closer reading: the electron-cavity diagram
The recovered Figure 1 from Aether Science Papers gives a concrete example of Aspden's argument. He proposes a near-field cavity with two length scales: an outer radial length related to half the electron Compton wavelength and an inner scale associated with the charge radius. He interprets the arrangement using phase-locked oscillations and a standing-wave condition.
The illustration therefore represents a theoretical construction. It is not a microscope image, a measured field distribution, or a demonstrated energy-generating device. The distinction matters because a geometrical explanation of a physical constant and a claim about useful power from magnetism require different evidence. A close numerical agreement in one proposed model would not by itself establish the operation of a motor.
This figure has now been inspected in the captured book, rather than inferred from its filename. It supplies one entry point into the primary writing. The other collected books and papers still require full, document-specific reading guides; the bibliography below is not a substitute for those readings.
What this source is

Who Harold Aspden was
Harold Aspden was a British electrical engineer and patent agent. The supplied index page does not give biographical details; the characterisation here is background context, not something this source establishes. That dual background — industrial electromagnetics plus patent law — shaped his output: he wrote in the register of formal technical papers, filed and prosecuted patents, and repeatedly framed his aether theories as alternatives to relativity and quantum electrodynamics that were being unfairly ignored rather than as speculative metaphysics.
He was a prolific self-publisher. The papers listed here were later posted online, which is how they reached the source archive; the index page does not state their original publication channel. He was also a fixture of the "free energy" and "over-unity" circuit, corresponding with and encouraging independent inventors. This matters for reading the dossier: Aspden's work sits at the boundary between conventional physics and the fringe-energy milieu, and the archive that preserved it is itself a fringe-energy archive.
The aether programme: what Aspden claimed
The unifying idea across the collected papers is that space has a physical, structured substrate — Aspden called it the aether, and in later work the "vacuum state" or "aether lattice." From this he derived a family of claims:
- Inertia and gravitation as aether effects. Rather than treating mass and inertia as primitive, Aspden argued they arise from the interaction of matter with the aether. This is the thread running through Power From Space — Inertia and Gravitation (1994) and The Theory of Antigravity (1991).
- Anomalous energy extraction. If the aether is a real medium with internal energy, Aspden reasoned, a suitably designed machine might draw net power from it. This is the claim behind the Power From Magnetism papers and the "over-unity motor" design.
- A preferred frame and alternatives to relativity. Synchronous Lattice Electrodynamics as an Alternative to Time Dilation (1987) and Retardation in the Coulomb Potential (1995) argue that relativistic effects can be re-described in terms of a lattice-like aether with a preferred rest frame, dispensing with time dilation.
- Biological resonance. Cyclotron Resonance in Human Body Cells (1997) extends the aether/field framework into a claim about ion behaviour in living cells — a topic that overlaps with the "magnetic therapy" literature and should be read as a research account, not a clinical finding.
The two foundational books in the list, Modern Aether Science (1972) and Aether Science Papers (1996), are the fullest statements of the framework; the shorter papers are applications of it.

The Potter Debate entry is notable: it records that Aspden's magnetic-energy claims were contested in print, and that he responded. The archive preserves the exchange rather than only the assertion, which is useful for a reader trying to gauge how the claims were received.
The Correa Invention paper is a second-order document: Aspden writing about someone else's claimed device (the Correa brothers' "PAGD" vacuum-tube energy converter) rather than presenting his own. It is a commentary, not independent verification of the Correa claim.
Mechanism as Aspden described it
In the Power From Magnetism line, the proposed mechanism runs roughly as follows. A magnetic core is driven through a magnetisation cycle; Aspden argued that under specific switching conditions the energy returned during demagnetisation can exceed the energy supplied during magnetisation, with the deficit made up from the aether. The "over-unity motor design" paper presents a specific machine intended to realise this. In the gravitation papers, the mechanism is a shadowing or pressure argument of the general class that goes back to Le Sage: aether flux is partially absorbed or redirected by matter, and the resulting imbalance appears as attraction. Aspden's version adds a lattice structure and a preferred frame, which is what lets him connect it to electrodynamics and to the antigravity claim. In Cyclotron Resonance in Human Body Cells, the mechanism is the classical ion-cyclotron resonance condition — a charged ion in a static magnetic field absorbs radio-frequency energy at a frequency proportional to its charge-to-mass ratio and the field strength. Aspden's extension is to argue that this condition is relevant to biological ions such as calcium and potassium in cells. What the source actually establishes
This is the crucial limitation. The dossier is a list of links. It provides:
- Evidence that the documents exist and were collected by the source archive.
- Titles, years, and a rough subject taxonomy — enough to reconstruct the shape of Aspden's programme.
- No abstracts, no data, no equations, no experimental results, no peer-review status, and no independent replication.
Nothing in the index page supports the correctness of any claim inside the papers. The over-unity motor, the antigravity theory, and the biological resonance claim are all assertions by their author, presented in self-published documents. Where the archive links a PDF, the PDF is the primary source; this page is only a finding aid. A reader who wants to evaluate the claims must go to the papers themselves and, more importantly, to independent attempts to test them — which this source does not supply.
Limitations and open questions
- Self-publication and venue. Aspden's papers were largely not peer-reviewed in mainstream physics journals. The 1987 lattice-electrodynamics paper and the 1995 Coulomb-potential paper are written in a formal style, but formal style is not peer review.
- The over-unity claim is extraordinary. Net energy from a cyclic magnetic process would violate the first law of thermodynamics as conventionally understood. The burden of proof is correspondingly high, and this source offers no measurement, no calorimetry, and no replication.
- The antigravity claim is likewise extraordinary and is presented as theory, not as a demonstrated effect.
- The biological paper should be read as a hypothesis about ion behaviour, not as a treatment or a dosing guide. No clinical outcome is reported here.
- The preferred-frame claim is in tension with the experimental basis of special relativity (Michelson–Morley, Kennedy–Thorndike, and modern optical-resonator tests). Aspden's response was that a lattice aether can be constructed to evade those null results; whether that construction is consistent is a question for the papers, not for this index.
- Open question: did anyone independent ever attempt to build the over-unity motor or test the antigravity prediction? The dossier does not say. The presence of the Potter Debate suggests at least one critic engaged with the magnetic claims, but the outcome is not summarised here.
