Aether Lattice (Aspden's Preferred-Frame Vacuum)

The aether lattice is the unifying concept across Harold Aspden's collected papers: the proposition that the vacuum of space is not empty but is a physical, structured substrate — a lattice-like medium with a preferred rest frame — whose interaction with matter produces effects conventionally attributed to mass, inertia and gravitation.

The claim

Aspden called the medium the aether, and in later work the "vacuum state" or "aether lattice." From this substrate he derived a family of claims:

• Inertia and gravitation as aether effects. Rather than treating mass and inertia as primitive, Aspden argued they arise from the interaction of matter with the aether. This thread runs through Power From Space — Inertia and Gravitation (1994) and The Theory of Antigravity (1991).
• A preferred frame and alternatives to relativity. Synchronous Lattice Electrodynamics as an Alternative to Time Dilation (1987) and Retardation in the Coulomb Potential (1995) argue that relativistic effects can be re-described in terms of a lattice-like aether with a preferred rest frame, dispensing with time dilation.
• Anomalous energy extraction. If the aether is a real medium with internal energy, Aspden reasoned, a suitably designed machine might draw net power from it — the basis of the Over-Unity Magnetic Motor Claim (Aspden).

Mechanism as described

The index page does not describe the mechanism; the characterisation of the gravitation papers as a shadowing or pressure argument of the Le Sage class is background context, not something this source establishes.

Limitations and unresolved questions

• The preferred-frame claim is in tension with the experimental basis of special relativity (Michelson–Morley, Kennedy–Thorndike, and modern optical-resonator tests). Aspden's response was that a lattice aether can be constructed to evade those null results; whether that construction is internally consistent is a question for the papers themselves, not for the index dossier that lists them.
• The index source supplies no equations, no derivations and no experimental results. It establishes only that the papers exist and what they are titled.
• The antigravity claim is presented as theory, not as a demonstrated effect.
