N. A. Kozyrev was a Soviet astronomer and the author of the September 1967 paper "Possibility of Experimental Study of the Properties of Time," signed at Pulkovo and distributed in English as Joint Publications Research Service report #45238 (2 May 1968). In that paper he presents himself as the formulator of "causal" or "asymmetrical" mechanics — a proposed extension of mechanics in which time is an active, directional physical agent rather than a mere coordinate.
Work described in the source
- Theoretical program. Kozyrev argues that exact science has reduced time to a spatial-like interval, leaving mechanics time-symmetric and unable to distinguish cause from effect. He proposes three axioms about the separation of causes and effects in space and time, defines the pseudo-scalar ratio C₂ = dx/dt, and derives a "basic theorem" equating a world of opposite time pattern with our world mirrored. See Causal Mechanics (Kozyrev's Asymmetrical Mechanics) and Kozyrev C₂ Constant.
- Experimental program. Experiments began in the winter of 1951–1952 with graduate student V. G. Labeysh and were later conducted at the Pulkovo Observatory laboratory with engineer V. V. Nasonov. They used aviation gyroscopes on lever balances and pendulums, plus torsion balances, electric-current and heat-flow variants.
- Astronomical work. Kozyrev is credited in the paper with a study of stellar internal structure (Ref. 5, published in the Bulletin of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory, 1948 and 1950) and with a 1950 paper on possible asymmetry in the shapes of planets (Doklady Ak. Nauk SSSR 70: 389). He also reports presenting a paper on double-star components at the autumn 1966 International Astronomical Union session in Brussels, reporting that satellites come to resemble their primaries in brightness, spectral type and radius, which he interprets as an astronomical example of action through time rather than through force fields. See concepts/star-satellite-convergence-claim.
- Jupiter and Saturn measurements. The paper reports planetary asymmetry coefficients measured from photographs, with D. O. Mokhnach as co-measurer of the Jupiter photographs.
Signature and provenance
The paper is signed "Pulkovo, September 1967." The source archive mirror of the translation is the source for this page; the mirror page also carries a portrait image and a site logo whose provenance is not established by the text.
Assessment
The source presents Kozyrev's claims as his own reported measurements. The paper reports no independent replication or third-party verification of its results. See Kozyrev Claims vs. Evidence.
