In N. A. Kozyrev's September 1967 paper, the "time pattern" is represented by the ratio C₂ = dx/dt, where dx is the arbitrarily small but nonzero spatial separation of a cause and its effect and dt is the arbitrarily small but nonzero time separation of fixed sign. Kozyrev argues that C₂ must be a pseudo-scalar: a quantity that changes sign under mirror reflection.
Consequences Kozyrev draws
- Basic theorem. A world with the opposite time pattern is equivalent to our world reflected in a mirror.
- Surface form. In the Earth-rotation extension, the source writes the surface time pattern as
+iC₂ − j(u − u)/(the source text is incomplete at this point, with a translator's note indicating a missing line). - Relation to the fine-structure constant. The paper relates C₂ to the fine-structure constant through the ratio C₂/C₁.
