The two-phase capacitor pulse-charging cycle is the mechanism described in US6677730 — Device and method for Pulse Charging a Battery, the battery-charger patent in the source archive Bedini dossier.
The cycle
- Phase I (charge): a capacitor bank is charged from an input source — AC current, a battery, a DC generator, a DC-to-DC inverter, solar cells, or another compatible source.
- Disconnection: the capacitor bank is disconnected from the input source. The patent describes this as allowing a "free-floating potential charge" in the capacitor.
- Phase II (discharge): the capacitor bank is pulse-charged at high voltage into the battery.
- Reconnection: once the capacitor has discharged into the battery, it disconnects from the battery and reconnects to the input source, completing the cycle.
A dual timing switch controls two independent channels dividing the two phases, driven by a logic chip or pulse-width modulator.
Why it matters in the dossier
The Bedini machines use this charger to deliver recovered pulse energy into a charge battery. The pulsed, high-voltage delivery is also the mechanism that replicators such as Harlan Sanders associate with Battery Desulfation by Cycling — the claimed revival of sulfated lead-acid cells. The dossier does not address whether the desulfation effect is specific to this circuit or would follow from any pulsed charging regime.
