Attribution boundaries

The figures do not belong to a single undifferentiated "FJH" subject. The rare-earth figures belong to the Xu/Sharp/Bing/Tour FJH-Cl₂ work (see fjh-chlorination); the battery figures to the Science Advances black-mass paper (see Battery Black-Mass FJH Activation); the graphene and electric-field figures to the JACS paper; the remediation and technoeconomic figures to the review excerpt and patent abstracts (see Environmental Remediation by Flash Joule Heating). Merging them would misstate what any one study reported.

Gaps acknowledged by the source itself

The excerpted 2025 Nature Reviews Clean Technology review states in its own limitations section that most life-cycle and technoeconomic assessments of FJH are preliminary and omit rebound effects (both direct and indirect), and recommends uncertainty analysis. It also notes a scale mismatch: inorganic synthesis work is at gram scale while graphene work reaches larger scale. These are self-acknowledged gaps, not external criticisms.

Compilation problems

  • Duplicated entries: US2025236521/CA3252464, US2024251581/AU2024251581 and US2024116094/CA3209120 appear as pairs; US12054391 and WO2025097139 each appear twice. Whether these are intentional family listings or artifacts is unresolved.
  • Mismatched abstract: the CN119707477 entry ("magnesium aluminate spinel") carries abstract text repeating the molybdenite wave-absorber description — an evident copy error.
  • Unnamed assignees: the supplied text names no assignees, so the split between the Rice University / James M. Tour orbit and independent Chinese filings cannot be determined.
  • No prosecution status: granted-versus-pending status, claim scope and commercial deployment are not given.

Assessment

The dossier is useful as a map of a research program and its patent estate. It is not evidence that the described processes achieve the stated figures at the stated scales. Any figure above should be treated as a claim pending independent verification.
