The evidence

  • No measurements. Neither document reports efficiency figures, input/output power, or test results.
  • No independent test. The Times piece reports an announcement; the patent is a legal document describing an apparatus and asserting operating principles.
  • No demonstration data. The Times notes only that d'Angelo "had a plan of his motor with him" and showed how it "started to develop energy from an electric battery."
  • Figure Vc is illustrative geometry. The area-based average-voltage argument is a diagrammatic illustration of the patent's stated principle, not experimental data.

The central tension

The 1928 press claim and the 1935 patent are not the same claim. The press account claims "inter-atomic" energy and "many times" the input power.
