"The absorber" is the archive's own folder label for the device or mechanism described in the source archive dossier at [source note 3], associated with Jerome Meyers. It is recorded here as a named subject awaiting description, not as a characterised mechanism.
Status of this page
The source is available and describes the device in two registers. The 1912 Technology World article reports a tower-mounted "absorber" of magnetised steel plates set in a circle, feeding a transformer, and states a second model developed 8 volts. The 1914 Modern Electrics article describes an iron-cored, copper-wound transformer-like unit on a tripod and reports a Westinghouse-meter test of 4.5 volts with an ammeter broken by the current. British Patent GB191301098 (1913) describes magnets with interposed zinc plates arranged substantially north–south, connected by iron wire, feeding a mercury-vapour rectifier/intensifier, and claims a substantially constant current at commercially usable voltage and amperage from a small apparatus at 50–60 feet. The patent itself states the inventor could not establish the principles authoritatively and that some theories 'may possibly prove erroneous'.
The label "absorber" is the inventor's own term as quoted in the press accounts. No independent replication or efficiency measurement is reported in the source.
Why the page exists anyway
Recording the name now prevents two failure modes later: (1) the label being silently dropped from the wiki, and (2) the device being merged into an unrelated energy claim — most plausibly concepts/over-unity-claims — before the source has been read. If the source text eventually shows that the absorber is claimed to output more energy than it takes in, that link can be made explicitly and attributed. Until then it must not be.
Open questions
- The source claims extraction of electricity from the atmosphere/earth; the patent says the current is 'dynamic and not static' but concedes the source is not definitively established.
- The figures (
fig1a–fig8a,pfig2) correspond to the drawings of British Patent GB191301098. - Reported performance figures (8 V in 1912; 4.5 V in 1914) are the inventor's/press claims, not independently verified measurements.
- Whether the device works as claimed is not established by the source.
